Pennridge community helps family of special needs child who died of epilepsy.
As a chilly wind whipped the autumn leaves Saturday morning, scores of people set out on a walk-a-thon to raise money for a headstone to mark the grave of Matt Leavens, a 17-year-old Pennridge High School student who died last month of epilepsy.
Matt’s mother, Kathy Leavens, choked back tears as she thanked the Pennridge student groups and teachers who organized the “Do It For Matt” walk around the school’s turf field. The event raised about $5,000 of the $6,000 cost.
