David Lang lives in a world of limitations.
Born 16 weeks premature, the High Point 7-year-old has cerebral palsy, autism and epilepsy. He has motor impairment — he must use a wheelchair or walk with an assistive device — as well as slow communication development and social delays. For a 7-year-old who just wants to play and have fun, such limitations can be terribly frustrating.
Once a week, though, David leaves those frustrations behind and becomes David “Iron Man” Lang, a free-swinging, fun-loving baseball player for the Tampa Bay Rays of the Miracle League of High Point, a league for special-needs children. In the Miracle League, David does it all: He swings a bat. He hits the ball. He runs the bases. He plays defense in the field.
Oh, and he smiles — David has an All-Star smile.
