Jamie Wick awoke in the hospital with needles dangling from his arm.
It was the summer of 2013, and Jamie was a healthy 16-year-old prepping for his junior football season at Cook County. Life was good on the North Shore.
A trip to the emergency room interrupted the tranquility.
A seizure — Jamie’s first.
Epilepsy was the diagnosis. “My reaction was, ‘Oh, my God, I just had a seizure,’ ” Jamie, now an 18-year-old senior, said after his Cook County baseball team thumped Wrenshall on Thursday at Braun Park in Cloquet. “You don’t expect that to happen.”
