The province is reviewing a recent decision to deny a Hockley teen access to a specialized epilepsy medication that’s helped him live a seizure-free life for many years. Before taking Zonisamide, Jane Bolton’s 18-year-old son Jesse used to suffer 30 to 40 seizures a day. He started the medication about five years ago after having a brain operation to improve his condition and he hasn’t had a seizure since. Because the medication isn’t approved for sale in Canada, it was only available to qualified patients at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.
