Sharon Rosenfeld, an outgoing nurse and teacher, died in 1993 while riding her bicycle across the country. Rosenfeld, a woman who cared greatly about epilepsy and was an advocate for helmet safety, was remembered Saturday by friends and family with “Sharon’s Ride. Run. Swim. Walk. Triathlon for Epilepsy.”
The event, created by her brother, Dr. William Rosenfeld, and his wife Dr. Susan Lippmann, started in 1996 in St. Louis. He said it was created as homage to his sister’s enjoyment of helping people.
“We wanted to do something to remember her and to help people like she used to love to do,” William Rosenfeld said. “We thought a good way to do that was to start doing fundraisers for the various epilepsy foundations, to get out the message about epilepsy and that people with seizures can do just about anything that anyone else can do.”
