They came. They wallowed. They played.
And they partied at Kelley-Meyers Park, where a grassy plain was transformed into 32 greasy pits for the Epilepsy Foundation’s Mud Volleyball Tournament.
Around 3,000 players and perhaps as many spectators frolicked in and around the slurry, or tailgated in a parking area at the 31st annual event, a fundraiser that’s older than many participants.
About 300 teams with names like Dirty Britches, Mudweiser, Code Brown and Beerly Standing paid $230 apiece for the privilege of entering the pits, where a calf-high goo triggered fanny falls and face-plants, rendering even the brightest pink shirts the color of espresso.
