A day after the measure was introduced in the state Legislature, the state Assembly Appropriations Committee Tuesday approved a bill that would allow parents to bring edible medical marijuana to school and administer it to their sick children without fear of getting themselves or school officials arrested. The bill (A4587) was inspired by the plight of a 16-year-old from Maple Shade with autism and severe epilepsy whose school district has refused to allow her mother’s homemade cannabis oil on school property because they fear they will be breaking the law. Marijuana possession remains a federal crime, despite state medical marijuana laws.
