Emma Friedmann has devoted her life to caring for her autistic son and raising awareness of the condition.
The 42-year-old, who lives in Highfields, Leicester, is the latest nominee in the Mercury’s Mum of the Year competition.
She has been put forward by her former partner, Tim Noakes, for her “tireless campaigning” on behalf of their son, Andy Friedmann.
Andy, 15, suffers from a form of autism known as fetal anticonvulsant syndrome (Facs), and has a mental age of about six or seven.
The condition can occur when a mother has to take epilepsy medication during pregnancy.
Emma, who has suffered from epilepsy for 32 years, was not aware the drugs could affect her unborn child.
