Mebourne researchers have discovered two genes that may increase the risk of epilepsy.
The landmark study of 34,000 patients found two genetic variants that could help scientists develop new treatments for common forms of the neurological disorder.
The Royal Melbourne Hospital and Austin Hospital scientists analysed the genes of almost 400 patients as part of the worldwide study.
Great breakthrough! Having epilepsy myself is there in anyway that these two genetic variants can be prevented through natal care before the birth of a child? Like say for example better natal supplements that have better sodium and or supplements that would help generate better cell binding control?
I would love to know if there was a way to get this testing done in the US so we could find out if our children could possibly get epilepsy as adults. I did not have epilepsy until I was 20…
I know that it does not tell if a person for sure will get epilepsy, but who knows.
