A group of about a dozen medical marijuana advocates met Wednesday afternoon in Albany with officials from Governor Andrew Cuomo’s administration for a briefing on the state’s progress in helping sick patients access marijuana for medical uses.
In June of this year, Cuomo and legislative leaders passed the Compassionate Care Act, a bill to legalize medicinal marijuana. But the program is not scheduled to be up and running for at least 18 months, and the law did not clarify whether patients hoping to access the drug on an emergency basis would be able to receive it before the program is fully operational.
