The man who died Monday in police custody was taking his mother to Sparrow Hospital to get her medications when he was stopped by an officer and jailed for driving on a suspended license, his mother said.
A few hours later — before she’d had time to bring him his epilepsy medications — she received a call that her son, Christopher Lee Phillips, was dead, Linda Phillips said.
