Her eyes repeatedly jumped focus upward and to the left as her shoulders jerked forward.
“My husband literally jumped out of bed when he saw it,” Annette Rockenstein said. “We knew in our guts that something wasn’t right.”
Annette and her husband, George, raced their 14-month-old daughter, Raegan, to the emergency room at Rideout Memorial Hospital. They didn’t know the tough road they were starting down.
Within a few days, Raegan was referred to a pediatric neurologist in Sacramento. Annette showed Dr. Shailesh Asaikar a video she’d shot a day earlier of Raegan’s body jerking uncontrollably.
Within 30 seconds, Annette remembers, Asaikar was saying it looked like Raegan may have infantile spasms, a severe form of epilepsy.
