Meredith Pence may only be 8 years old but she knows an awful lot about medications.
“That’s a lot of medications,” Meredith said, as she showed all the bottles to a WPBF 25 News crew.
Meredith suffers from Dravet syndrome, a rare form of epilepsy. It causes a variety of different seizures that can come anywhere, any time.
“It’s heartbreaking,” said Meredith’s father, Ken Pence. “The first time was horrible. The 30th time is just as bad. You’re helpless.”
The six medications Meredith takes help control the seizures but they can have devastating side effects. If they try reducing the medications, the seizures get worse and more frequent. Now, the Pences believe they have renewed hope for Meredith’s future.
